Let's make it clear, what is the difference between catering and banqueting?
Mon 10 July 2023Although the terms "catering" and "banqueting" are often used interchangeably, they actually have slightly different meanings. Here is an overview of the differences between catering and banqueting.
Catering:
Catering refers to providing food and drink service for events such as weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, meetings and more. Typically, catering is offered by specialized companies that prepare food and bring it to the location of the event. Catering can include a wide range of food options, from simple options like finger food and snacks, to three-course meals.
Catering can be managed in various ways. For example, the food can be prepared in the kitchen of the venue, or it can be prepared in the kitchen of the catering service and then transported to the location. In both cases, the catering service takes care of everything related to food, from preparation to presentation.
Banqueting:
Banqueting, on the other hand, is a more complete catering service and involves the organization of the event as a whole, not just food and drinks. Banqueting can include table and chair layout planning, room decoration, food and drink service, entertainment and more.
Banqueting is often offered by venues hosting events, such as hotels and restaurants, which take care of the organization of the event in all its aspects. This type of service requires more coordination and attention to detail than just catering.
In summary, the main difference between catering and banqueting is that the first refers to the provision of food and drink, while the second concerns the organization of an event as a whole. While catering is often run by specialized companies, banqueting is most commonly offered by event venues.
